Visiting The West Highland Museum couldn’t be easier. We are situated just off the main pedestrianised High Street in Fort William at Cameron Square, a ten-minute walk from both the bus station and the rail station. Street parking in Fort William is very limited but the town’s main public car parks are all within a 5-10 minute walk from the Museum.
Admission is FREE
The Museum shop stocks an eclectic selection of books on a range of topics, from specialist titles for the historian, to introductory titles for children, as well as a selection of gifts; crafts, glassware, souvenirs, toys.
Popular titles include ‘Bygone Lochaber’ by Somerled Macmillan and ‘Castle Commando’ by Donald Gilchrist.
An illustrated guide to the Museum & collections is available, priced £2.50.
Interpretive guides in French, Italian, German, Dutch and Spanish are also available free of charge.
The ground floor only has wheelchair access. Because of the building’s listed status, we are unable to make the necessary changes to accommodate chair access on the first floor at present. We have, however, applied for funding to incorporate universal access into a planned redevelopment of the museum.
